Museums: Superhero Exhibits

Comic book superheroes are more than mere entertainment, and can even be considered a form of modern day mythology that often weaves science and culture into their narratives. For this reason, they have increasingly become the focus of museum exhibits across the country that not only tell the history of superheroes but their impact and the ways that they can educate as well. From STEM to social issues, superheroes reflect the world-at-large, and these exhibits bring that world to life for all to see.

Comic-tanium: Material Science and Superheroes

Curator Suveen Mathaudhu discusses the joint exhibit between the ToonSeum and the Mineral, Metals and Materials Society, which explores real science through the science of comic books.

Marvel: Universe of Superheroes

The traveling exhibit premiered at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture in April 2018, and serves as a tribute to the publishing giant that has influenced countless generations since 1939.

Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N.

An exhibit premiered at New York City’s Discovery Times Square in 2014 that allowed fans of the Marvel Universe to become Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. while likewise learning the science of superheroes.

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy

The 2008 exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art showcased costumes from comic book superheroes alongside contemporary fashion designs and highlighted their similarities.
