Pittsburgh: Fandoms

Fans of Geek Culture exist in practically every city in the country, as well as fan groups of everything from Star Trek to Star Wars, Doctor Who to Harry Potter, and Pittsburgh is no exception. Like with any organization, members come-and-go as these fan groups evolve and change over time, making the below collection of articles more of a “snapshot” rather than an up-to-date account of their activities. Taken together, however, they demonstrate that fandom is indeed strong within the Steel City.

Browncoats: The Rivers and Bridges Brigade

Members from the Pittsburgh chapter of Firefly and Serenity fans discuss their initiation into the fandom, as well as the organization’s charity efforts within the region.

Malachor Temple

The Pennsylvania-based chapter of the international Saber Guild fangroup performs live action lightsaber duels while donning authentic-looking costumes from the Star Wars Universe.

Steel City Ghostbusters

Members of the Pittsburgh fanclub attend numerous conventions, parades and charity events in the region, dressed as characters from the classic 1984 supernatural comedy.

Steel City Time Machine

A Pittsburgh Back to the Future fan refurbished a 1982 DeLorean into a replica of the film’s time travelling sports coupe and can often be seen patrolling the streets of city in it.
